Perfect Piroshkis
Piroshkis are yummy little stuffed dumplings!
Ingredients
2¾ cups Namaste Foods Pizza Crust Mix or Namaste Artisan Pizza Crust Mix
1 tsp. salt
1-2 eggs eggs beaten (optional)
1 cup warm water
1½ pounds ground beef
1 onion, finely chopped
1½ tsp. olive or canola oil
2-3 tsp. dried dill weed to taste
1½ cups part skim grated mozzarella cheese (optional)
Directions
- In a medium skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until evenly browned; drain. Stir in the onion and cook with the beef until translucent. Sprinkle in salt, pepper and dill weed to taste. Allow to cool before mixing in the cheese.
- Pre-heat oven to 400° F. Combine 1 cup warm water and 1-1/2 teaspoons olive or other oil to 2-3/4 cups of dry mix. Beat with an electric mixer for 3 minutes on high speed. Divide dough into 12-14 small balls. On a cookie sheet sprayed with non-stick spray, pat out the dough balls into rounds that are 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick, about 4 inches in diameter. Brush rounds with the beaten egg, (or water) then spoon some of the ground beef mixture into the center. Fold the dough over to make a half moon shape. Use a fork sprayed with the non-stick spray to seal the edges firmly. Poke a few holes in the top of each piroshki to allow steam to escape while baking. Brush the tops of the piroshkis with more beaten egg if desired. Continue making piroshkis until filling or dough runs out.
- Baking directions: Bake at 400° F for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Serve immediately with your favorite pasta sauce, yogurt sauce or dip.
Variations
- Recipe variation: Piroshkis can also be deep fried. They are done when they float to the top of the oil.
